Kenny Denton's "There Ain't No Rules In Rock n Roll" (Reviews) Now Available on Kindle From Amazon.
"There Ain't No Rules in Rock 'n' Roll," is now available with Photographs on Kindle from Amazon. While my stories centre around the music industry, you need not possess any knowledge of the business or be an avid music enthusiast. They are stories featuring some of the most intriguing characters I have been lucky enough to spend time with.
Within this Kindle you will discover,
1) Which major record company executive warned me of Jimi Hendrix's impending death just three weeks before his died.
2) Learn how Bill Haley intervened to save Chuck Berry's life.
3) Find out how I ended up sharing a pint of beer in a pub with a grizzly bear who sold 250,000 singles without ever charting.
4) Uncover the story of the singing waiter who defied the odds to become one of the biggest artists in history.
5) Find out how I ended up sharing a pint of beer in a pub with a grizzly bear who sold 250,000 singles without ever charting.
6) Explore how John Lennon and Yoko Ono played a role in naming the band Hot Chocolate.
7) Experience the challenges of producing an album with the legendary guitarist Peter Green.
8) Read about the unexpected encounter I had with movie star James Garner, who unknowingly bought me breakfast when I was a teenager.
9) Discover the truth behind Mungo Jerry's hit single "In The Summertime."
10) Learn why Bing Crosby made a heartwarming phone call that touched many lives.
11) Find out what Fred Astaire's mother thought of his singing voice.
12) Explore the remarkable story of the hit songwriter, journalist, and spy catcher who executed an incredible sting operation inspired by the movie "The Sting."
13) Delve into my close friendship with Tony Newley and the true identity of Anthony Newley.
14) My crazy adventure in Louisiana's Cajun country, where I believe I came across Snow White’s and Dopey’s offspring.
15) How I found out that you can always tell a Texan BUT! You can’t tell him much.
16) And much more.

    All three are exceptional singers. This was done live, band/orchestra over on the side, no autotune, no body mics (only hanging which means you really have to sing and project, along with the hand mic at his medley.) Real audience. Probably with just a few retakes of entire numbers, but not too much splicing or dubbing in. No layered vocals to boost the voice like today. The two ladies would have had to make a time commitment to Newley to learn and rehearse the show like a cabaret or theater act, so probably 2-3 weeks total. You can tell it was on a budget, same set/costumes/lighting for most of the hour, but sometimes great things are produced when you have to work around limits, like with this special. I also appreciate the short not-too-cheesy banter to connect the musical numbers, kept the focus on the singing. And you can feel the respect the two ladies had for each other.

    Is there a way to learn about the history of The Spacelings? I'm morbidly curious as to whether they were meant to be another Alvin & The Chipmunks or if it was just meant to be a one off thing for Christmas

    • @denton115
      @denton115 2 місяці тому

      Hi Marcus, Here's the background of The Spacelings in a nutshell: In the mid-80s, our daughter was obsessed with The Wizard of Oz, particularly the Munchkins. This led me to wonder what their 80s equivalent might be. I came up with "The Spacelings," imagining them as a pop group traveling the universe, spreading Peace and harmony through moral stories for children. I created characters named Zig Zag and Zara and made a demo of the song "Last Night." With the help of my good friend and manager, we raised the funds to start the project. I collaborated with David Stoten, and after a day of brainstorming, we developed several characters. I asked my children to pick their favourites. Then, I asked my good friend Chris Thompson, known for singing "Blinded by the Light," to sing the lead. We also found Moon and Parrot to handle the animation. We had a promising meeting with the MD of Hanna-Barbera in Pall Mall just before Christmas 1985. He loved the idea and promised to pitch it to the head office in America, but we never heard from him again, and he took some of our ideas which appeared in H/B cartoon sometime later. Actress Hayley Mills offered to contact Disney and even to write some stories, but unfortunately, nothing came of it. In the early 90s, Working Title Films showed interest. A representative who had attended the Spacelings launch had an artist paint the Spacelings on her daughter's bedroom wall wanted to revive the idea. However, after a few months, she informed me that Working Title Films would have to put it on the back burner. During COVID, my wife and I wrote four new stories and added new characters. Our dear friend Bill Kimber did the narration. Despite contacting many production companies, there was no interest. So, we decided to upload our 4 demo productions to UA-cam, where the remain, without to much interest. Hope that helps to explain the history of the project. Kind regards Kenny

      @denton115 Well, today I learned that you weren't just a person who uploaded the song from an old TV airing. You deserved way better. Also, I was kinda wondering if you were inspired by Hanna-Barbara, since it reminds me of Clangers meets The Snorks, but you answered it well. Hopefully, you can get a better deal one day. Hi Marcus, I agree with your comment. When COVID arrived my wife and I wrote 4 short new stories and invented new characters, then set about making demo videos to try and gain interest in making a TV series. We aimed at an audience age of between 4&7. Each story had a moral message within. After approaching several productions companies, it appeared that the stories didn't reflect the society of today, in a nutshell we weren't woke enough. The 4 new adventures were created at home on 2 iPads and we were pleased with the results so we placed them on my channel. I have attached a link should you like to see, what we were aiming for. m.ua-cam.com/video/ukSJvCBBFrk/v-deo.html Kind regards Kenny

Shows up in all the phases of his performing life... You do such a good job with economy of words.... giving those of us who love him for himself..... a way of knowing the man himself. We are whole persons.... but all of us .... and Tony seems cobbled together..... and was vulnerable in that period of time in culture and society when norms were more unsettled and shifting....as they are always shifting but some times more than others.... I loved Anthony Newley. A talent like his comes along very rarely. He was a genius. I can definitely understand why Joan Collins was so heartbroken when their marriage broke down. Anthony Newley is a very hard act to follow, no doubt about it. I always felt that behind the laughs and the jokes, there was a sadness deep inside him, which I felt gave him a certain vulnerability. Thank you for reminding us of a truly gifted and incredible Man. We won't see his like again, sadly.

Interestingly, when I play them in my VLC player, the quality of footage looks remarkably superior and displays the full screen. However, when I transfer them to iMovie, the quality is always sadly disappointingly lacking and the screen does sometimes loses the top of the footage, which I apologise for. I do try my best but I'm unsure how to adjust the numbers that you have mentioned to improve this. kindest regards Kenny

    i have the DVD of Vice Versa with Anthony as a child (same story as ‘Big’). I’ve always loved ‘’Do You Mind?). Also saw him at The Palladium in ‘Scrooge’. Fantastic. As for growing up in poverty - the narrator makes it sound like everyone in East London live in poverty. My mum was born in 1931 in Bethnal Green, just along the road from Hackney - yes she was poor but not poverty stricken. East London doesn’t mean dirt poor.

    • @denton115
      @denton115 3 місяці тому

      Hi Nina, I agree, all of my family were from the East London and I was born in Commercial Road. Although it was tough as my mother used to say, "people just got on with it," but I found whenever Tony was asked about those early days of living in poverty, he always avoided the question. I was told by his mum Grace was born in 1901 that when her father was away in the WW1, being the eldest she was left to look after the family and when he returned, he discovered that Grace had burnt all the furniture to keep her brothers and sisters warm. So maybe tougher for that generation. Kindest regards. Kenny

    David Bowie was a huge fan, imitated his vocal style early in his career on his 1967 Deram debut LP

      Agreed, Tony was a one off and never imitated anyone. Kind regards Kenny

    That was marvellous. Never knew the film existed. This needs to be released on DVD and Blu Ray without delay.

      I agree, I know that Tony was upset that this movie never reach the notoriety, he had hoped for. Kind regards. Kenny

      @@denton115 It has a great cast, script and songs, and the location shooting really adds to the quality of the film. If they could bring it out on DVD it would make a wonderful companion piece to the excellent 1970 Albert Finney Scrooge.

      @@TruckOnTyke1 Agreed, but unfortunately the companies are run by young kids who have no interest in what went before, Kind regards Kenny.

    I remember seeing this on TV in 1972 but I was only 14 years old and didn't fully appreciate it. Seeing it today has been an absolute joy. Thank you!

    I grew up loving a lot of songs that I eventually found out were written by Anthony Newley. And then I found out he grew up in Hackney and went to Italia Conti, same school as my daughter, but she went early 90s. I was fascinated by the man. So talented. It bought a tear to my eye to find out he wasn't happy deep down. Breaks my heart. He was phenomenal.

    Just received the Pure Imagination/Ain’t It Funny CD. Needless to say I’m absolutely beaming with joy. Thought those albums were out of print but thankfully I was wrong.
